Well-informed about an issue, parents are willing to campaign alongside teachers.
Matraville Public School teachers have regularly engaged parents in conversations about schools funding, so when parents were told the Gonski schools funding corflute signs could not be hung on school fences, the parents decided they would do something about it.
Parents and teachers met and decided that parents would stand out the front of the school holding up the signs before school and teachers would do after school sessions, up until the federal election.
The word spread and the number of parents outside the school each morning more than doubled in a week.
Additionally, parents from the school joined forces with Matraville Sports High School parents to campaign at the high school’s car boot sale.
