Corrective Services assistant commissioners have declared their continuing commitment to educational services for the rehabilitation of offenders as the department considers options to address the sharply increasing numbers of NSW prisoners.

Custodial Services Assistant Commissioner Kevin Corcoran said inmate numbers had risen by more than 1000 since July 2013 in a system that was running out of beds. He said the growth rate was unprecedented.

Mr Corcoran and Assistant Commissioners for Offender Management and Policy Dr Anne-Marie Martin reiterated a commitment to consult with Federation. Proposals have yet to be drafted for Ministerial approval.

Members of the Corrective Services Teachers Association who have any specific concerns arising in their workplace are encouraged to contact their workplace Federation Representative and their Organiser.
