What about me?

NSW and Victorian residents met on a bridge over the Murray River to campaign for the Gonski reforms. They held up a long sign which read: “Sign up for Gonski — our kids are worth it.”

A Victorian student sang “What About Me” by the Australian rock band Moving Pictures at a Gonski schools funding rally in Mildura on June 15.

Victorian and NSW parents, principals, teachers and students easily drew the connection to the situation Victorian students are facing. NSW students are set to benefit from the fairer schools funding deal NSW Premier Barry O’Farrell signed with the Federal Government, but until Victorian Premier Denis Napthine does so, Victorian students will miss out.

Members of the Sunraysia community signed letters to Victorian Premier Napthine calling on his Government to sign up for the Gonski schools funding model.

Community members also signed letters to Federal MP for Farrer Sussan Ley and Federal Opposition Leader Tony Abbott, requesting that they recognise the benefits the NSW Gonski agreement provides for students, especially those who need extra support.
