Seminar will raise issues of interest to teachers of VET in schools

The Vocational Education and Training in Schools Special Interest Group has met on a regular basis throughout 2014 and 2015. (The SIG has an extensive mailing list of over 100 members.)

A range of issues were raised at the Annual Conference in 2014 and these issues have been pursued both with BOSTES and the Department.

The Independent Education Union (IEU) has been campaigning as well on these issues and a joint meeting was held earlier this year with IEU officials and classroom teachers.

It was decided at this meeting to hold a workshop/seminar in the second half of the year to bring together VET in Schools teachers to raise awareness of a range of VET in School issues.

Kira Clarke from the Melbourne Graduate School has been a vocal advocate for change in the VETiS area. She has written extensively for National Centre for Vocational Education Research (NCVER) and has published many papers in recent years.

Kira has been invited to address an audience of VET in School teachers on Monday August 10 from 4.30–6.30pm in the Heritage Room at Teachers Federation House, 23-33 Mary Street, Surry Hills. The IEU is meeting half the costs of the seminar.

It is proposed to video Kira’s session and have it available on the Federation Website for VET in Schools teachers in rural and remote areas.

Details of VETiS seminar are as follows:

Location: Heritage Room, Ground Floor, NSW Teachers Federation, 23-33 Mary Street, Surry Hills.

Date and Time: Monday, August 10, 2015, 4.30-6.30pm (Sign in and afternoon tea at 4pm).
