Significant supporters of Stewart House were honoured on Stewart House Day, May 8.
Some 245 public schools were acknowledged either at an awards ceremony at Curl Curl or in the mail, due to their distance from Stewart House.
Donations of more than $25 per student are recognised as Diamond supporter status, $15–$25 per student is recognised as Platinum status, more than $10 per student receives a Gold award, more than $7.50 a Silver plaque and for schools raising over $5 per student Bronze certificates are awarded.
Russell Lea Infants School continues to be the only school with Diamond status, raising a record $59 per student.
Platinum trophies were awarded to Ballimore Public School, Belltrees Public School, Bendemeer Public School, Kings Langley Public School, Mary Brooksbank School, Menai Public School, Milbrodale Public School, Muswellbrook Public School, Newcastle Senior School, Padstow Park Public School, Tangara School, Wewak Street School and White Cliffs Public School.
To be eligible for an award, a school community must first participate in fundraising either through sale of merchandise, our $2 gold coin envelope drive, mufti days, sausage sizzles and the numerous other activities teachers organise. Once a donation has been registered, Stewart House looks at the school’s staff donations (through the Salary Contribution Scheme) and adds these into the total. A school community’s contribution is then calculated on a per student basis.
Last year school donations (including purchase of merchandise, annual $2 Donation Drive envelope drive and general school-based fundraising) totalled $449,442. Teachers and school staff donated $1.77 million through the Salary Contribution Scheme and a further $1.8 million was received in general donations from organisations, corporations and individuals. That does not include the myriad in-kind donations Stewart House receives on a daily basis.
Stewart House appreciates the generosity provided during 2014 and looks forward to continued support in 2015.
