Federation wants building reserved for public purpose.

The NSW Government is seeking approval for three levels to be added to the traditional headquarters of the NSW Education Department in Bridge Street, Sydney as it seeks to lease the heritage-listed building for use as an hotel.

Concept plans were exhibited by the Planning Department over summer, with submissions closing on February 2. Assessment and determination will follow.

An underground pedestrian link between the Education and Lands (also on Bridge Street) buildings, plus hotel service facilities under Farrer Place and Gresham streets are also proposed.

Federation wants the Government to find a suitable public purpose for the Education building, which houses rolls of honour listing teachers and educators who served the country in war.
