Federation established the Centre for Professional Learning (CPL) to provide high-quality training and support for Federation members in a range of educational areas. The courses aim to provide practical, tested and well-researched approaches to issues that face teachers every day at the school level.
The CPL aims to offer programs that are useful across the spectrum of a teacher’s career from the early years of teaching to the experienced and leadership levels.
Courses are conducted in-person, as well as online.
The scope of courses continues to concentrate on the continuing rollout of the new NSW syllabuses, which are aligned with the Australian Curriculum and the new Stage 6 syllabuses in History, Science, English and Mathematics. Additionally, the CPL Program contains course offerings that cover other parts of the curriculum and perspectives including the creative and performing arts, Aboriginal Education, educational leadership, support for students with special needs and support for early career teachers.
The CPL continues to strengthen and expand partnerships with major NSW universities and continues its successful partnerships with the Association of NSW Regional Conservatoriums (ANSWRC) and MUSICA VIVA to provide high quality professional learning to support music education in primary schools.
Members are able to apply for courses and conferences and make any enquiries through the Centre’s website.
In 2017, the fee of $180 for one-day courses and $200 for conferences and will apply except those courses dedicated to early career teachers which will continue to have the fee waived. In the usual fashion, schools are asked to meet the relief costs incurred by teachers attending their professional learning courses.
Courses are registered and accredited by the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA), formerly the Board of Studies Teaching and Educational Standards NSW), and all time at courses counts fully for maintenance of accreditation at Proficient Teacher.
