The Gonski mobile billboard has been back on the road, visiting schools throughout NSW, and once again the green army of Gonski supporters has turned out to show their support for the union's campaign and continue the call for genuine, needs-based, sector-blind school funding.
Teachers, parents and community members greeted the billboard's arrival and heard from Federation about the ongoing campaign. Principals of many schools detailed the programs they planned to implement from 2018 should the Commonwealth honour its share of the NSW Gonski pact.
These plans are all at risk should Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull’s plan be supported in the Senate. Students would miss out on: reduced class sizes to meet the individual pupil needs, speech/occupational therapists, specialist literacy and numeracy teachers, enhanced gifted and talented programs, and access to professional learning for teachers in rural areas.
