Let’s not talk about cutting health,
that unemployment is rising and our manufacturing industry is being offshored,
that youth unemployment is at disgraceful levels, and is denying hope for millions,
that refugees are dying in Australia’s offshore prison camps,
that university fees will place the majority of middle-class and working class students in debt bondage for much of their lives or exclude them from higher education altogether,
that possibly Russia is not the only nation at fault,
that Israel commits war crimes,
that the banks are still not sufficiently regulated and the world’s financial system is now more precariously balanced than it was before the GFC,
that profits and wealth persistently go to the richest 5 per cent and more so to the richest 1 per cent while the middle-class is being eroded and poverty welcomes the rest,
that corporations are controlling governments,
that corporations (their lobbyists and think-tanks) are writing the legislation and trade agreements that make them accountable to no public entity so that making profits at any cost is more important than human rights and the future of the planet,
that the finance sector owns and controls most of the world’s corporations (and most of these finance corporations are in the US and UK),
that democratic institutions and citizens’ rights in societies across the world are being eroded,
that it is now probably impossible to maintain global warming to 2 degrees, and that 4 to 5 degrees is now most likely, but still the powers behind the carbon economy deny that they are bringing about the destruction of most societies, the deaths of billions of people and the loss of what remains of ecological diversity on the planet within the next 50 years.
Instead, let’s increase the Australian terrorist alert level to high and ensure everybody is afraid — but part of team Abbott.
(Just in case you needed something to get you out there, to do something about what is going on in the world.)
