Federation has commenced negotiations to replace the current school Salaries and Conditions Award (2014-2016) with a new award from the start of next year.
Our union has tabled its claims, consistent with the democratic decisions of Council and Annual Conference. The most recent Federation policy on school salaries and conditions is published on pages 3-5 of Federation's 2016 Annual Conference decisions, available on our website here.
Federation’s negotiating position upholds the following commitment in the Annual Conference decision: “The Federation has consistently refused to countenance trading off teaching and learning conditions in salaries negotiations and will continue to do so.”
The Department has tabled its proposals, consistent with the state government’s Public Sector Wages Policy and current education policies and strategies.
Federation is hopeful that agreement can be reached without industrial conflict and disputation.
The aim is for the parties to negotiate through November, with proposed terms of settlement for a new award to be presented for the consideration of Federation Executive.
The Executive comprises 18 teachers who are broadly representative of the membership. It includes principals, executives and classroom teachers who work in different school settings in city and country locations across the state.
If Executive votes in favour of accepting the negotiated outcome, a recommendation for endorsement of the terms of settlement will be put to the 300 delegates at the Federation Council meeting on Saturday November 26.
If endorsed by Council, a recommendation to endorse the terms of settlement will be presented in a televised broadcast to mass meetings of Federation members at venues across the state.
The aim is for this democratic vote of members to occur before the end of the school year. If endorsed, a salary increase should be effected from the first pay period in 2017.
