Federation members joined thousands of Sydneysiders at a Sydney Refugee Action Coalition rally on August 27 to protest against the treatment of refugees and asylum-seekers on Nauru and Papua New Guinea's Manus Island.

Renewed calls to close the camps and “Bring them here” were chanted as Unions NSW Secretary Mark Morey, whistleblower from the Manus Island detention centre Nicole Judge and critic of asylum-seeker policy from the Gosford Anglican Church Father Rod Bower addressed the crowd.

"Let’s take action to ensure that those legally seeking asylum from persecution in their homelands have the opportunity to settle in Australia, to try to heal their wounds and look forward to a future of hope and peace," Federation said.

"Federation knows public school and TAFE communities await them with open arms."
