A Major Conference on English in Years 7–12

Inspire confidence and engagement

"Freshen Up. Simplify. Look Again: Teaching to Inspire Creative, Curious and Critical Minds"

When: Friday August 12
Where: Teachers Federation Auditorium at 37 Reservoir Street, Surry Hills

Are you “cabin’d, crib’d, confin’d” by the constraints, pressures and demands of the current educational landscape? “Freshen Up. Simplify. Look Again” is a major conference for all involved in teaching English Years 7-12. This is an opportunity to come together to celebrate and replenish our shared and individual passion for English.

Our three highly-experienced and passionate presenters, Dr Jackie Manuel, Deb McPherson and Jane Sherlock, are back for 2016.

This conference will explore such questions as:

  • What are the conditions for optimising student creativity, curiosity and critical thinking?
  • What are the key dispositions for creative and critical thinking?
  • How can we freshen up and simplify our pedagogy to improve student learning?
  • What are some successful projects which we can adapt in our own classrooms?
  • What are some exciting new texts, resources and strategies for inquiry and project-based approaches to learning?

This conference will provide practical, transferable and adaptable ideas and resources to inspire confidence, engagement and agency in your own teaching and your students’ learning. Fresh ideas will be presented to support you as you continue to implement the new Years 7-10 English Syllabus and the Stage 6 English Syllabus.

Registrations are being accepted for this conference and all financial members of Federation are eligible to apply to attend CPL courses and conferences.

The conference will be held in the Teachers Federation auditorium at 37 Reservoir Street, Surry Hills. Registration is from 8am. The conference starts promptly at 8.45am and concludes at 3pm. To register and find details about the conference, click here.
