Members of the wider union movement have been asked to send a letter to their local paper in support of their local TAFE.
“Our world-class TAFE system provides an important pathway to skills and employment for young and old people alike. It allows us to re-skill and gain new qualifications no matter where we are in our working life. But the TAFEs we all know and love are being starved of funding by the Baird Government in favour of for-profit private colleges,” Unions NSW Secretary Mark Lennon wrote.
“Share your story with your local paper about what TAFE means to you and let’s get the message out that it’s too good to lose.”
He said there had been 83,000 fewer enrolments since 2012 due to the ballooning of student fees.
