Gonski lobbying is getting good results

Community understanding of the Gonski funding arrangements is growing, after a concerted effort by activists.

Sixty six per cent of people have heard about the arrangements — up from 45 per cent in January 2014 — the most recent survey conducted for the Australian Education Union reveals.

Education came third behind health and jobs as the top issues among the 1000 people surveyed across 18 targeted electorates, including eight seats in NSW. Funding TAFE and vocational education came in at number 5.

Almost 80 per cent of voters surveyed from the Prime Minister, Malcolm Turnbull’s electorate in a ReachTEL poll for the Australia Institute in October said they support or strongly support the education funding model. In North Sydney, Joe Hockey’s old seat, 71.3 per cent support the model.
