Wanted: teachers' stories to help children smile

Do you have an amusing, inspirational or poignant story from the classroom?

We are two pre-service teachers from the Central Coast collecting contributions for a book we are editing. The proceeds will go to Stewart House, the charity mainly funded by NSW public schools and teachers that provides short-term respite care for children from public schools.

We were inspired by the work being done at Stewart House when we visited it in Sydney. It is an extremely worthwhile cause to support, one that makes a significant difference to every child given the opportunity to go there.

We look forward to sharing the stories of teachers and helping Stewart House at the same time. Please share this article with the staff in your school or with other members of the community who might be able to assist this project.

Stories can be emailed to us at: sarah.vanderkley1@det.nsw.edu.au.

Stewart House helps public school children from families that are experiencing difficult times. Every year, 1800 students attend this safe haven next to Curl Curl beach in northern Sydney at no cost to their parents or carers.

Children take part in educational programs and excursions designed to develop their social and emotional skills, build self-esteem and improve wellbeing.
