IN BRIEF

It’s a wrap

Your 2014 calendar is included with this issue of Education, necessitating the use of plastic wrappers which the Federation generally tries to avoid. Plastic was also used to wrap some copies of the November 18 edition after the machine used to process paper wrappers broke down. The plastic wrappers are recyclable.

Curriculum with crunch

Thirty two lessons and digital resources, aimed at teaching five to 12-year-olds, to grow and cook from an organic garden are now available online. The resources have lesson links to sustainability, maths, science and literary skills and can be downloaded from the Australian Organic Schools website at http://www.organicschools.com.au/.

The learning tooth

Or, if you’ve really got a taste for learning over lunch you could bite off a chunk from one of the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Foundation’s latest offerings. Their Tools for Teachers series offers lesson plans based on kitchen and garden experiences and now they’ve supplement them with Recipes for Literacy. The full menu is online at
